My birthday is on 5 January; this year was the first without my husband, who passed away prematurely in 2023, so there was no celebration, but my daughter gave me a present anyway: two novels, knowing that my nights are long.
One is Robert Harris's The Officer and the Spy (2013), about the Dreyfus affair. I already knew the story. I also watched the 2019 movie directed by Roman Polansky about the Dreyfus affair, with a screenplay by Polanski and the same Harris. J'accuse originates in Emile Zola's article in L’Aurore in January 1898. The famous author accused many people in France,
of supporting the increasingly blatantly erroneous accusations against Dreyfus.
The true story of Alfred Dreyfus, captain of the French army, is highly topical and contains many of humanity's dilemmas. It awakened in me a primordial rage against injustice.
Having a PhD, a master's degree, two bachelor's degrees, and Liceo Classico (e so di Greco e di Latino, Giosué Carducci), what do I need if I don't help the innocent?
The Dreyfus case took me out of my comfort zone and inspired me. I want to make my knowledge available to help the voiceless.
So, I began connecting my social media, creating my blog and opening myself to the world.
Stay tuned!
